Hi!
I love reading blogging tips, but up until the move over here to WordPress, I broke one of the cardinal rules – the URL of your blog should match the name of your blog. Although I’ve been “Afford Your Passions” for a number of years, the URL of my blog wasn’t “Afford Your Passions” – prior to becoming “Afford Your Passions”, my blog was called “English Elegance” (like Afford Your Passions, English Elegance was the name of another of Maureen Appleton’s cross-stitch designs – one that I have actually stitched!) – but I thought English Elegance would have people thinking that I was English, and writing the blog in the UK. In point of fact, I was born in England, and still retain British citizenship (along with my US citizenship), but I never identified myself as being English – I have always been “Australian”.
So, the blogspot URL was englishelegance.blogspot.com.
Last year, I decided that I wanted a custom URL, but when I saw the price to purchase www.affordyourpassions.com, I just about had a cow…

Did you see that? ONLY $2,195!!!

So, I looked for something else, and decided to focus on my desire for a little coastal cottage in my retirement, and picked www.livingbytheshore.com.
But, living by the shore isn’t really me – I *did* live by the shore when I lived in Indiana (on the shores of Lake Michigan), but right now, I’m in north Texas, almost 300 miles from the shore, so it seemed kind of silly, because the blog wasn’t about living by the shore, or coastal decorating, or anything like that – it has always been about my passion for crafting, and affording time in my life to make that happen.
So, Afford Your Passions dot net is the new URL. Who knows, one day the dot com may become available, but if not, I think I’ve found my new home here at dot net
What do you think?

I check on moviemuse.com every 6 months or so to see if it is for sale. Whoever has it is just sitting on it. I’d make them a reasonable offer (though $2000 is probably out of my price range). I have another URL that I could use, plus my real name domain, but I’d love to have moviemuse.com. I keep waiting and hoping!
What’s bizarre about the $2k plus price for the domain is that it was only $800+ a few weeks ago – I have no idea why the price jumped so much!
Thanks for the suggestion yesterday about redirecting my blogger – I will be doing that when I’m comfortable that everything has been exported over here correctly.
Hi Susan! I had no idea you had made the transition to wordpress! I’ve very happy you posted about your new post over in blogger that’s for sure!
While it might be a little late now – I’ve used a website called Go Daddy for domain names in the past. I know the name sounds weird but I got a domain for a year at 10$. Not sure if this would work for you. Just try googling it
Thanks, Melissa – I just went “live” with my WordPress blog yesterday, so you haven’t missed much!
Hey Ms. Susan,
Hope you are doing well. Wishing you a wonderful day.
Your blog looks great. I can’t believe a name would cost sooooo much! Yikes! Well at least your url mathches your blog name now
Hugs and Kisses,
♥Ana
Thanks, Ana. Yeah, I was surprised that “my” name would cost me so much – so, instead, I went with the .net for a cost of only $10 a year
– I’m not a “big girl” blogger, so there was no way I could justify spending more than $10 or so on a URL
Congratulations! It looks awesome, I’m going to try and share on FB. You need one of those share buttons.
Debbie
I guess I should add one of those “share” buttons! Thanks for visiting, Debbie!
I think you are fine! I have seen soapy blogs with .net…..including The Lettered Cottage.
blessings,
karianne
Thanks, Karianne for your visit. I know The Lettered Cottage has a .net, so I’m not too upset, but I hope that someone doesn’t snap up the .com of my website and become hugely popular
Susan – love your new blog. I’ve bookmarked you!!
Thanks, Dar for being so supportive all the time!
Selling my domain http://www.oddgossip.com . just $1500 price tag…..
